“Orang-orang seperti kamu tak tahu seperti apa rasanya disakiti. Karena kamu tak punya perasaan. Orang-orang seperti kamu tak merasakan apapun.” – I Am Sam

1. Makanan khusus critical care (seperti Hill’s Prescription Diet Canine/Feline A/D)
2. Alas tidur penyerap cairan/lembab, koran bekas, handuk.
3. Kursi roda untuk kucing
4. Sponsor/OTA
5. Pengasuh/pengadopsi, berpengalaman merawat kucing berkebutuhan khusus

Terima kasih sebelumnya.

“People like you don’t know what it’s like to get hurted. Because you don’t have
feelings. People like you don’t feel anything.” – I Am Sam

Do we really want to be that heartless person mentioned in I Am Sam movie dialogue? Maybe you’ll answer “No!” to that question, but sadly to say that kind of people exists.

Last Saturday, late at night, a report was filed through our website, a male stray cat
was found wounded and lying helpless in someone’s yard since Saturday morning, unable to move. Joanna wasn’t the one who found the cat, it was her neighbor who later called on her and they thought the cat’s a hit and run victim. Joanna’s report was shared among AFJ volunteers and a volunteer who lives nearby the area immediately contacted Joanna, but kept on failing. Until the next day, on Sunday noon finally she texted us back and soon we met her at the location.

The male cat was lying inside a small empty fish pool, protected by an umbrella and
covered in towels Joanna provided for him. But the cat was soaking wet from the rain
pouring heavily the night & the morning before! As soon as Joanna saw him in her
neighbor’s yard, she wanted to move him somewhere safer and dry as soon as possible, however she didn’t succeed since the cat kept on hissing fiercely and trying to scratch her with his claws, and she’s also afraid if mishandling occurred it would hurt the cat even more. Feeling worried about the cat and out of desperation, Joanna filed her report to us.

We named the cat SAM. The pain & misery Sam endured were tremendous!! No wonder he’s trying to protect himself by acting aggressive, but he’s just one terrified and badly wounded innocent cat! We’re lucky to have a professional vet nurse and experienced wildlife conservation activist of Wildlife Watcher Singapore volunteering for us right now, we sure can use his skill
Carefully he handled the horrified & injured Sam, and off we rushed him to the clinic.

Sam, suffers from spinal penetration at lower spine, a bullet’s embedded there, causing paralysis of his hind legs. High chances of 70 percent the 2 hind legs will be permeate paralysis. 30 percent recovery through intensive physical spinal therapy. Prognosis of SAM’s x-ray indicates high chance of fatality to undergo surgery to remove the bullet in his spine. There was blood stain in Sam’s urine so an USG procedure was performed; internal bleeding’s found. Not only that, several open wounds covered with maggots were also found in different spots on his body

After 3 days of strict and regular medication in minimizing infection from maggot
wounds that Sam suffered, through observation from caregivers, Sam is now able to
defecate and urinate on his own.
Sam’s quality of life are 90 percent from the observation and prognosis as now Sam is able to eat on his own and recovering well under the caregiver care. Hopefully his
condition will remain stabile and only get better.

However, what Sam’s needs are NOT only TLC and thumbs up, so he made this wishlist for you who want to help him:
1. Critical care pet food (such as Hill’s Prescription Diet Canine/Feline A/D)
2. Absorbent pads, old newspapers, towels.
3. Cat’s wheelchair
4. Sponsors to cover his medical & daily care expenses
5. Foster parent/adopter, experienced in looking after a cat with special needs
6. Continuos support, education and action to stop animal cruelty!!!

Oh, Sam would like to give his appreciation to: Joanna for her initial effort &
donation (you’re welcome if you want to visit Sam…), Vet Aniq & the crew (thanks for
the discount!! We can always use more ;D ), Vet Andre Lisnawan, all of YOU animal
buddies and last but not least…behind-the-spotlight animal heroes (you know who you are…).

PLEASE… consider making a donation to support AFJ – we are a registered non-profit organisation, and totally reliant on the support of people like you. Every bit of your donation helps rescue, care for, pay for medical expenses, shelter, feed and find
adoptive homes for animals in need as well as making it possible for us to run our on-
going programs to end animal cruelty. Thank you!
